A large library filled with many books, each and every one sorted carefully by type or subject. The familiar scent of paperwork held the promise of so many new stories, so much potentially useful information. Auris had held many a book before, had always enjoyed literature, but libraries on this scale never ceased to excite him. A satisfied smile appeared on his face as he scanned past the different rows of bookcases, wondering what he could learn in the time he'd be in Antar. He stepped in front of one of the nearby shelves and reached out for the closest book, taking it out from between the others. Without actually paying mind to what it was about, he paged through it, noticing the book was in good state. For a brief moment, it reminded him of the few libraries he had visited in the time of his research, before he had even heard of the demon outbreaks. Absently he proceeded to further leaf through the book's contents, recalling how he and his companion had puzzled out so many things together, how they had shared those moments of confusion and breakthroughs. They had learnt more about their topics than the average person in his close surroundings ever did. Their research had never been at a professional level, but to him personally, it had meant a lot.
When he reached the back cover of the book, he slowly closed it again. That was one thing he always noticed at silent places like libraries: it was way too easy to get lost in memories. Quietly putting it back, he continued to explore the nearby row. He decided it couldn't hurt to try and borrow a book or two already: it gave him something to do in his downtime from training. Ah.. But how am I going to find the exact book I'm looking for, especially when there are so many? I don't even know the sorting order of this place yet.. He considered. Looking around for any map or plan of the place, he suddenly caught sight of someone standing in a far corner, instead. A woman, who he assumed to be the librarian, was busy sorting books. Then, an idea crossed his mind.
He approached the busy woman, and then carefully spoke up, as to not suddenly break the library's silence. This was one of many reasons he usually disliked the quiet: however much he liked literature and all things related, he would have preferred if libraries felt a little more.. energetic. A little more alive, perhaps.
"Um.. Excuse me?" He began, so far without noticing that the woman was worried or lost in thoughts. "May I have a quick moment to ask you something?"

Camille jolted in surprise when she heard a voice sounded near her. She was so lost in thought, she didn't realize she was no longer alone. She looked up and found a man with startling green hair looking at her.
"Oh my!" Camille exclaimed. "I am sorry, I didn't realize you're here." She said apologetically. "I have been so preoccupied, I seem to misplace a very important book." She explained anxiously, "if the Generals find out about this, I'd be in big trouble." She moaned despairingly.
Then she looked at the young man in realization. "Oh wait! You could help me!" She exclaimed hopefully and put a hand to her mouth when she realized how rude she must have sounded. "I mean, would you both please help me search for it?" She ask with a slight desperation in her voice. "Time is of the essence. Training is about to start and the Generals might come looking for it." She said urgently.

.. Huh--? Slightly confused by the sudden turn the situation had taken, it took Auris a moment to process the questions coming his way. The librarian he had just approached seemed to be full of worry and concern, and he found himself unexpectedly changing over from being the requester to being the responder. "Well, I.." He considered his options briefly before answering. There wasn't much else he was planning to do at the moment besides spending some time in the library -- and in that sense, this wouldn't change anything. He attempted to recall the librarian's words from just now. A book, an important one, had been misplaced.
".. I wasn't expecting this, haha." He finally admitted. "But I have more than enough time anyway. In other words, I may be able to help." His eyes shifted over the shelves, where the librarian had just been sorting books. It wouldn't be easy finding a specific book among all the others in this library: even harder without any hints or clues. But if not for this librarian, he would have to go trough this effort for any book he wanted to read. He reasoned that any fair-minded person would take the time and effort to help out. "So, this book-- what did it look like?" He then asked. "Size, color, title? If I get a sense of what to look for, I'll do what I can to try and find it."

"Oh thank you so much!" Camille exclaimed in relief, if there wasn't a counter between them, she would have bear-hugged the boy. It would truly be helpful to have another set of eyes looking. The library was huge after all...maybe she should ask General Equiste for an assistant or two...
Shaking her head, Camille smiled gratefully as she said, "it's titled Craftsman's Book. It's a big, red, leather-bound book with the details painted in gold. It's a book about crafters, the people who will make your weapon. The generals would recommend for you to read it once your training starts." Camille explained, "...so I wanted to transfer it somewhere easily accessible." She looked at the rest of the books she has already organized. "But I can't find it."
"I last saw it in the reference section when I visited here a month ago, when General Equiste first offered me to be a librarian here..." Camille told the trainee, "...either it has been misplaced or someone took it..." She wrung her hands worriedly. "Either way, I'll be held accountable for it."

"Craftsman's Book.." The young trainee repeated. He tried to recall if he had ever heard the title before, but only until it occurred to him that this book was probably unique, and that chances were extremely small. "And the reference section is where you last saw it?" Once more he took in his surroundings, trying to make a rough guess on which section was where. He was still painfully aware of his ignorance when it came to the sorting order, but at least in front of the librarian, he didn't want to look as clueless as he was.
"A month ago is an awfully long time, though.." He then stated. "Anything could've happened to it. Are you certain you haven't heard a thing about it since?" Auris quietly hoped for some more leads or details. Anything would be of use right now. If he were to search the entire library -- or in the case of it having been stolen, all of Antar -- without further information, this task would consume massive amounts of time. "From a coworker, perhaps? Or any guests who were interested in the book? Surely, somebody must have seen it between then and now.." He questioned, hoping to at least sound like he knew where to begin.

"Well...I briefly entertained the idea that someone might have stolen it..." Camille started, "but considering who can come here...I doubt it. The only people allowed to enter Antar are the soldiers and you trainees. Everyone who were offered jobs by General Equiste are all ex-military personnel as well." She said with a smile. "Though some of the soldiers might be interested in it...I am sure they fear General Equiste's wrath more. So I am inclined to believe that the book has just been misplaced..." She told him.
"Of course, I wouldn't disregard the idea that someone might have stolen it as well...but I will worry about that once I've checked everything here." Camille added, "if I report to the generals that the book has been stolen and it ended up being here all along..." She let the thought fade as she shuddered.
"Oh! And the only people allowed to take that book out are the Generals and the Advisors. But if they did take it, they would have recorded it." She continued, "so...they are the only people to ask whether they borrowed it. And well, I would like to ask them when I am really QUITE sure that the book isn't here." She finished in a rush. 'No need to rush to my doom as long as there's hope...' She thought to herself. "Of course, there's your fellow trainees too. Some of them might have visited already when I haven't started my duty. If we can't find it here, perhaps you could ask them for me?"

Auris listened closely, trying to remember all relevant details that could possibly help them. If anybody should have the book, it had to be one of the soldiers, trainees, Generals or Advisors.. At the very least, it limited the possibilities.
He nodded once as a reply to the librarian's question. "Will do. If we're certain it's not in the library, I'll just go and-- Oh, wait!" He suddenly interrupted himself as an idea crossed his mind. The trainee paused to figure out some details, then immediately proceeded to share what his thoughts had created.
"Alright, so.. Hang on. This book has either been stolen, borrowed, or it's somewhere misplaced in this library.. Right? And instead of considering all three at once, it is indeed better to first exclude one or two possibilities." He narrowed his eyes slightly, his mind still busy puzzling. "The safest option is to start by searching in the library. However, it's a huge effort to go through all the shelves here.. The easiest option, on the other hand, is to first eliminate the possibility the book having been borrowed." The trainee briefly counted something on his fingers, as if making sure he wasn't overlooking any facts. He had no idea whether his plan was going to work at all; but he didn't want it to be completely useless, either. ".. For this, we can simply ask around. However, as you said, information about the book being absent may not spread. So, here's the idea!"
As always when the young man thought he had a solution, a spark of eagerness showed in his eyes. "How about I think up an excuse -- a reason or argument that would cover up the actual cause -- and ask everyone in such a way that it seems trivial? I can even ask the Advisors and Generals; I just need need an excuse that works with them, too. Something that won't make them suspicious." He realised the plan held a certain amount of risks, but was already too carried away to let it block him. "Then while I gather information from them, perhaps you could continue searching here.. Either way, then at least we know if anybody else has borrowed or perhaps seen the book." The trainee was well aware that this all required him not messing up, but he was confident he'd think of something. He always did.

Camille let out a slight laugh. 'What an enthusiastic young man.' She thought to herself.
"Well, it's a nice idea."Camille started, "but I am worried...the generals and the advisors are all quite sharp. I am afraid they'll notice something is amiss once you start questioning about the book. They have spies everywhere among the soldiers here I'm afraid." She smiled at him at this. "Better leave that part to me." She had no reason to let this young man face the wrath of the generals after all.
"Hm...just double-check the reference section and its nearby shelves for now. If someone read it, they might have just misplaced it in another shelf after." Camille suggested. "I'll take care of the rest here. And if you can't find it, maybe then you can..uh...discreetly ask your fellow trainees about it."

"Aw.. Spies. Good point, I didn't think of that." Despite the slight disappointment in his voice, it didn't come as a surprise to him that the idea was too risky after all -- in fact, he was used to his plans being called reckless, or even inconsiderate at times. More often than not, he required someone else to be the thoughtful counterpart to his impulsive character, lest it got him into trouble. But it never held him back from trying.
"Alright, alright.. The reference section." He nodded once. "Got it!" Already about to turn around and head towards this specific section, he just in time remembered he was still clueless about which direction to actually go in. He opened his mouth as if to say something, but then hesistantly closed it again. Auris always hated to admit whenever there was something he didn't know. Initially he was going to ask this anyway, but somehow it felt more bothersome at the end of a conversation.
Eventually though, he decided it was necessary. If only I had paid more attention to my surroundings when I walked in, he thought. I should stop getting lost in thought so much. "I probably overlooked it when I came in, but.. Is there any map or sign with the locations of the different sections?" Was his final question. "That's the last thing I need to know -- then I'll be on my way."

Edward paced up his steps as he thought of his little sister being furious with him again. After Eclair knew that he had kept one book that belongs to the Antar Library, she yelled at him nonstop, telling him that the books in the said library were all for the trainees and for their students and it not allowed to be taken out of custody.
But due to a call from the Head of the House of Fredeliz, he has to review some stuff that is written inside, to make sure that they all have the facts straight and correct. He even had to stay up all night to do the work and modification if needed. If it was only writing, he could have taken a shorter time than needed but editing the whole thing is a different story.
He turned right in the hallway and out he went from the office building. He dashed himself towards the library door and gush it open, revealing two figures in his line of sight but too late to stop, making bump into the green-haired guy, knocking another set of shelves with some books over, together with the book that held so dear in his chest.
“Sorry there, young lad.” He said immediately as he rushed to take all of the books in his hands, separating them from the one that he was holding a little while ago.

Barely even having finished his question, Auris startled when all of a sudden he heard the library doors slam open behind him. "Wait, what's..?" Unable to react in time, something -- or someone -- suddenly and forcefully bumped into him, causing the young man to fall over and hit the ground. Multiple books fell along with him, and he quickly covered his head just in case any of them were to fall on top of him. "Ow! Hey!" He then exclaimed, a slightly offended tone in his voice. "Why can't you-- That kinda hurt, you know?!"
The trainee sighed, and carefully pushed himself back to his feet, looking around to see if he hadn't dropped anything himself. But only when he stood up straight did he see who he had been talking too. .. Oh, no. He realised with a shock how rude he must have sounded. I shouldn't have said that.. How, just how do I always get myself in these situations? "Oh, well um--" He started hesistantly. "I.. I meant it's okay! Don't even worry about it." Smiling awkwardly, he tried to think of a way to make up for this blunder. Perhaps the books.. Yes, that could work. ".. Here, wait, let me help you!" He quickly added, and without waiting for any answer he bowed down to help pick some up.
And it was then he suddenly noticed the book Edward was holding apart.
.. Craftman's Book. Auris paused, reading the golden letters on the cover time and time again. Was it really..? Yes, that's it.. It must be. He thought. That's the book she's looking for!
"Um.. Excuse me," He carefully started again, inwardly scolding himself for everything. "That book you're holding there.. It's, eh-- May I perhaps have a look at it? By any chance?" He must've sounded so stupid.

Edward almost blanked at the sudden request. “Are you that interested in this book? Although this was just compiled lately and there are still some modifications that might happen.” He told, happy enough that there is someone who has a good interest with crafting.
He knew well that crafting around the continent is a rare job and before the demons had become the real thing, it was just one of the minor jobs with a lot of apprentices that had no chance of getting any higher ranks. But thanks to his persuasion and Eclair's power in the military, they manage to make good use of the crafters and had to push them to create this book to help trainees into their journey.
I’m just a genius. He told himself full of pride. Who doesn’t? He was just one of the few that wanted to make himself useful despite his sickly body.
“Here.” Edward handed over the book to the kid. “Just to let you know, books here are not allowed to be taken out of the library. I’ve learned my lesson the hard way already.” He averted his eyes from the trainee as he remembers how furious his little sister was at what he has done.

"Understood." Auris answered as he was handed over the book, wondering what would actually happen if a trainee were to be seen with a book outside. Would it actually be considered stealing? Would they just be scolded for breaking the rules? "I'll make sure to keep it here." He added. "Thank you."
Despite the advisor not seeming offended at all, Auris still felt slightly embarrassed about the situation from just now. He realised he hadn't even said sorry or anything of the sort. Was it necessary? Maybe it wasn't as bad as he thought. Deciding that thinking about it wasn't going to make him feel any less awkward, he instead smiled politely, and then quickly excused himself before he'd say anything stupid again. He'd continue disapproving of it later; until then, he just hoped it wouldn't hold any sway in the future.
Auris' amber eyes shifted back to where the librarian was standing before he had fallen over. At least he had been lucky enough to run into the book -- or rather, have the book run into him. Either way, he had it. Quickly checking its cover a final time, he confirmed this really was what they were looking for. .. Well, problem solved. He thought. At least that went quicker than expected.
At last, the trainee began pacing in the librarian's general direction again. As he walked, he subtly held the Craftman's Book in front of him with its cover facing forward. Not saying a word, he was curious if she'd notice.

“Well, now that is returned,” Edward started again after having the book taken away from his hands. “I should keep going now. I do still have some papers to review, after all.” He excused, scanning the room again for one last time, hoping he will find anything more interesting.
Knowing nothings comes into his sight, he decided the take a step backwards and turn towards the door, humming to himself while having both his hands on his head, walking like nothing happened.
‘Mission accomplished.’ He told himself, satisfied.
Edward exirs.

Camille was just about to answer the trainee's question when she heard the doors slam open. She turned to scold the person making such a loud noise in the library when she was met with the sight of Lord Edward Equiste dashing towards their direction with no signs of slowing down. Her eyes widened in shock as the man bumped into the young man she was talking to.
She was too shocked and slight tentacles of fear started gripping her heart as her brain registered that Lord Equiste, one of the advisors and General Eclair's brother was right in front of her!
'Oh no!' Camille thought in horror. She barely registered the two men talking as she tried to think up of excuses as to why an important book has gone missing. She was so lost in thought she belatedly registered that Edward has already left. "Oh!" She blinked as she turned just in time to see the nobleman close the doors in a more gentle manner this time.
She turned to the trainee with wide eyes but the sight of the book he held in front of him made her pause. Then slowly, a smile formed on her face. "You found it!" She exclaimed joyfully and hurried towards him. "Oh thank you so much!"

The librarian reacting so happily to the book he was holding, Auris couldn't help but smile. "Well, it's not how I had expected to find it -- but it's here!" He said, purposely leaving away the details, despite being uncertain if she had been watching or not in the first place. Out of habit he quickly brushed over the cover, as if to remove any dust if it were present, and offered the book to her.
"In any case, it seems like it hadn't been misplaced. So don't worry about it having been your fault: it wasn't." He added truthfully. His eyes shifted from the empty spot on the shelves back to the book that was now in the librarian's hands. The Craftman's Book.. It did look like an interesting book, that was for certain. Perhaps he'd get around the library another time to have a read by himself. After which he would put it back in its correct place, ofcourse.

Camille nodded and smiled again at the trainee as she received the book. "In any case, thank you again for your help." She said with a small bow. At least she won't get in trouble with the higher ups now that the book has been found.
"Now, I believe you have something to ask of me?" Camille suddenly remembered, feeling guilty that she had unintentionally put aside his business. "I'm all ears now."

"Oh!" By now, Auris had completely forgotten about the question he had previously wanted to ask. This had been the primary reason he had initially approached her, and now he had been on the verge of just walking away without any answers. "Haha, right! I almost forgot." He quickly began explaining. "I had been meaning to ask about the library's layout. I'm pretty certain it's indicated clearly somewhere, like on a map of sorts, but.. I've probably overlooked it." He stated, again noticing his own dislike about having to admit his ignorance. It made him feel stupid, even if only slightly. "I was wondering where I could find an overview -- or moreover, actually, where I could find any books regarding myths, natural forces, elements.. anything of the sort."

"Myths, natural forces, elements...?" Camille echoed as she pondered her answer. "Hmm...Well, if you are looking for stories and the like regarding those, you'll find some at the very back shelves." She finally answered, pointing towards the back of the library.
"We don't have a lot of story books though, with this place being a training ground." She added as she as sent an apologetic smile towards the trainee. The instructors made it so to limit the things that could take away the trainees' attention from their training. In any case, Camille doubts that the trainees would have enough time for leisurely reads once they start training anyway, so it was better this way.
"However, if you are looking for academic books on Magic? We do have a lot of them." Camille said, unsure whether her hunch was correct about the trainee wanting to look up books for his magic training. Magic was a fairly new concept after all and the magical weapons developed so far are still in experimental stages. "They are on the shelves near the back. Just check the labels on the shelves." She instructed.

"Heh, I was curious about its history and thought perhaps I'd find anything stemming from these subjects." Auris explained at the mention of magic. "Academic books are great as well though!" He noted enthusiastically. "In fact, they'll be much more useful in the time to come. I'll definitely be able to make good use of them." He looked in the direction the librarian had pointed him. On these shelves as well, many a book were placed, all neatly organised and waiting for somebody to pick them up and start reading.
He couldn't wait to have a start at this.
"I'll be right there reading, then." He said happily. "Thanks for the information!" Emphasizing his gratitude towards the librarian with a friendly nod, the trainee then proceeded to turn around and walk in the direction the books were located. He purposely hadn't said bye yet, for he knew he'd be reading there for the hours to come.
Now that he had found this place, Auris figured that speeding up his learning process here would probably continue on a daily basis. So long had he been searching for information, and now it was all collected nicely in front of him. It briefly stung him again to realise that Roshe wouldn't be able to be here with him, but he had already decided he'd point out the most important facts and perhaps write them in a letter to his companion. That way, they could continue what they had started despite being so far apart. Until then, however, this knowledge was all his for the taking. All of it.
And it was time for him to get started.
