After getting off the trainee's ship and asking for the direction to the Equiste house.
Locke's stride was steady as he walked through the unfamiliar roads and buildings. It hasn't been that long time since he had a hand in his whenever he passed through crowds of people but he felt the emptiness in his palms. It was like a maze to him. No matter where he walked, nothing looked comforting. The unfaltering pace he had seemed to slow down with the surfacing of an irrational fear but the reason for his walk was to hopefully ease this. Gripping his empty right hand tightly, he resolved himself again and kept moving.
After landing in the port town and finalizing his registration, Locke wanted to get a more firm foothold in the city. In an unknown land, one of the reasons for adventurers falling to scams and hoaxes was because of the lack of information. Knowledge was indeed a sort of power and Locke knew he needed to borrow it from someone.
But the question was who? Who would be the best option to ask? The apple vendor in the streets would not suffice, nor the mere guard who was standing watch.
No, Locke didn't need just anyone who knows a thing or two. Half usable information would just hinder his progress or put him or his search in dire straits.
And so, after thinking about these regards, Locke made the decision to ask the town nobles. He asked the people who had been at the port about them and from there he knew that there were three prominent houses in the town. One house was managing the agricultural development, one was in charge of military training, and the other was in charge of finance.
As Locke kept walking past the grand buildings and businesses of the town, he deeply wanted to have a discussion of finance to the house that was managing it. While agriculture was not a particularly vital part of his trade, he was also interested in the lay of the land.
But he did not come here for mere profit. He had something more important in his sights, and that was the house of Equisite; the house in charge of the military.
Its going to be fine.
He whispered to himself as he finally reached a huge gate with the help of his mental map, which he got from asking the locals.
His knees felt weak. Was it because of nervousness or excitement, that he doesn't know. He also did not know the formalities needed to talk to a noble. He was clueless as to what to do, but he did have an idea. One that will definitely get the attention of someone from the house, at the very least.
Locke steeled himself, banishing his fears and unease to the best of his abilities, as he spoke out in his most boisterous voice, "Might I have an audience with head of the Equiste family?"

Ileana sighed softly. The moment Eclair went and baited Locke with the promise of his companion's safety, she knew that things would spiral out of hand. Now Kisara is threatening a recruit that may well be on the verge of backing out. She can't let that happen! They need as much soldiers as they can.
She sent a small glare at the other two generals. "Now, now, let us all be civilized and play nice alright? We don't want to cause a scenario here." She smiled at Locke comfortingly, "don't mind them Mr. Cole, especially Ice Princess here. She's just like that, but deep down, she's a good person. Very, very, very deep down." She assured him.
"We actually have no idea where you companion might be. However, if you are sure that she is here in Altrus, there is a very good chance that we can find her." That is, if she hasn't been unfortunate enough to come across a demon yet. She didn't say it out loud though, it might be too cruel to say to a man who is clearly desperate to find his companion.

Locke breathed out a long breath to try and calm himself down. He was in a severely disadvantageous position at the moment and the icy touch of fear was slowly gripping his spine. The words of the red headed general, whose visage reminded him of his lost companion, helped in easing his nerves.
"Thank you," Locke faced general Amadea with sincere gratitude. If she was not here, Locke would've most likely lost his bearings.
"Pardon my mistake," he said this time to the dark haired general who seemed to be in a deeply bad mood. "I did not intend to belittle you. Any of you for that matter."
The cold grin she had struck a bit of Locke's resilience despite general Amadea's insistence of her being nice'.
This will be very troublesome... he said to himself as he strained his thoughts. He wanted to know why general Alexandria seemed to dislike him, or at the very least his demeanor.
And his conclusion was her dislike of facades. Merchants are tricksters with the words of a poet. They would entice anything as long as it brought them profit, and even Locke was a puppet to certain machinations of the trade. But while he knew that facades are an important tool to merchants, he also understood people who disliked them. It was partly disrespectful, he realized, when he would not lay out his true intentions when the other party has already laid down theirs.
For now, Locke understood that they needed soldiers. It was evident with general Amadea's insistence of calming him down. The needed men and they did not want to drive off any manpower they could get. It was irrelevant where they came from, as long as they were strong and usable. He was already in a bad light so instead of playing the meek merchant, he would need to be the wolf who jumps first.
"Fret not lady Alexandria," he said to her with a sincere smile. "I come not to plunder your riches. My true intention is really for the search of my companion and since general Amadea has already assured me of so," Locke's eyes narrowed into a playful teasing gaze, thinking to himself that this might just cause his life to be more hellish than ever. "I too will assure you that I will make myself as unbreakable as possible."
Locke did not mind the doubt he sensed in general Amadea's words when she comforted him. It was not the time. He needed to at least show them that he has resolve to move follow them and, if ever their intentions conflict his, to move against them.

Sipping her tea to calm her down. Luckily the tea has a calming effect to her and she made another mental count to calm herself more. Locke triggered her hate for people who don't show their true intentions by means of some innocent or kind facade. Mostly merchants and corrupt investors when she had to deal with the trades and financial resources of Altrus through the years since she became Head of Alexandria at a very young age.
Now with a calm and cool head she set her cup down and caught Locke's gaze with her golden ones. "Be sure not to lose that smooth confidence you have Mr. Locke." She said with a small and rare playful smirk forming on her lips.
"Because it will be fun to break that confidence of yours." She shifted from her seat and lean close to him and said. "Just pray that your companion has not fallen prey to the demons you'll be training to kill for."
While leaning back to her seat she grab another colorful macaroon to munch. Sweets and tea really calms her, if they don't work, sparring with Ileana or killing demons during missions helps ease her emotional tension. But looking at Locke and recalling the applications of the other trainees, she might not need Ileana for a sparring session once the training starts for this batch.

I knew that sound.
Edward furiously stomped his way towards the origin of the chits and chats of the ladies that always have visited his house. He may not be the heir of the combat house, he still seems himself as the head of the house as the oldest son. And he is sure that his little sisters are aware of that fact as well.
He gritted his teeth at the thought that there is some other guy who came inside his territory without him, knowing. The usual faces are okay. But what he heard just now was never a familiar voice. And that raged him mad. It would have been fine if this visitor came for his aide but for him to face his little sister, especially behind his back, he want to know who got the nerve to do that.
Without further ado, he banged the poor wooden piece that separates him to the west garden wing. He ignored the light that pierced through his eyes and concentrated on extracting the four figures at the center pavilion.
He can’t help his blood to boil at the sight of a guy. Even if he’s not talking to Eclair, it still triggered his fury.
“Eclair,” Edward’s commanding tone vibrated throughout the garden. Even if he was sickly and often excluded to combat-related activities, he still did his best to earn the privilege to command and he can’t help but use that voice to his own little sister. “What is that guy doing here?”

Eclair can’t help but smile to the reactions he’s currently seeing in front of her. Ileana, trying to ease the atmosphere? She told herself. She wanted to laugh that out-of-character scene while it replays in her head. It was once-in-a-blue-moon kind of thing to happen. Deep inside her, she somehow felt proud of the little tiger. Then sour the next second while thinking that it will disappear the next second.
But what surprised her more was Locke Cole. The man managed to let out emotions from the ice queen, not even minding what could happen to him. If that wasn’t courage, Eclair surely doesn’t know what it can be called. Or he was plainly naive by doing so since he did say he doesn’t have much of a clue about Altrus. It can be explained by that.
Knowing his subject of search could be found in Altrus is a big problem for him in the future. Especially if he decides later on to severe his ties to the Force once information about his companion being out of the continent reaches his ears. But Eclair is not a magician who can tell the whereabouts of a single human being let alone know if one is still alive or not. But she still hopes that the borders are doing fine and the demons are still sleeping while they finish one batch of trainees to level their power up even by a little.
And she surely can’t afford to lose one guy either.
Eclair tried to calm her mind. “But of course, we can’t deny the fact that your companion might be around our territory. You did land in Altrus once while chasing after your target. Surely, she could also have reached this land. And there’s a chance that –”
Her voice was cut when she heard a loud bang of a pair of doors. Her head turned to her left, knowing by nature that it was the only entrance to the west garden and her eyes circled in shock to see her already-furious brother, anger obvious in his face.
As her name was called in a loud ring that almost stopped her heart out of fear, she knew what’s about to happen so she immediately stood from her seat and went to become the barrier between Edward and Locke. For heaven knew things might get out of hand.
“Edward.” Eclair responded with an almost the same power as her brother. She knew for a fact that Edward still rules the house even though she’s the heir of the family. Might have been the privilege of being born first.

"Uh oh." Ileana couldn't help but mutter as she saw the dark look on Edward's face. "Siscom guy incoming." Ileana snickered softly to Locke and Kisara. She had witnessed Edward's jealous rage a few times before and it was always a sight to see. Who knew that such a meek looking guy is actually hiding such a fierce nature underneath?
She stood up from her seat and to draw their attention. If they didn't stop Edward from antagonizing Locke now, they might lose him for good. It was bad enough that Kisara is already antagonizing the guy for something as petty as a 'personality mask'. What's wrong with that? Kisara herself dons her own mask, Eclair has her own mask, everyone has their own mask. Ileana rolled her eyes, they really didn't need to add another one to intimidate Locke. They need him right now. She doesn't care what he does in the future, whether he defects or stays is a problem for another day.
"Hi Edward." She started, sending him the most charming smile she could muster in the face of his anger. "Sorry, I was the one who brought him in without asking you. But since he is one of the new trainees, I figured it would be alright." She explained, looking down at the ground repentantly. She hopes to at least calm him down by guilt-tripping him.
She placed a hand on Locke's shoulder and continued, "you remember Locke Cole, right? He's here asking for information about his companion," she paused as if to think about something, "hmmm....I'm not very sure but, weren't you the one who accepted his application?"

Locke's mind was a buzz. His thoughts were a complex mix of anger and spite, and yet he was rather calm about the matter. Despite his fear about the safety of his companion, he knew that what was beyond his reach was beyond helping. At this very moment, the dark haired general was right; he still needed to train for the military.
Locke was surprised the moment another person stormed through. As he blinked a few times to confirm that this was not a play of his mind, he managed to realize that he was letting his emotions get the better of him. As much as he found the man who just barged in an annoyance, the air he had made Locke understand that he was not a man to be trifled with.
"Good day," he said to him with his nonchalant smile already ready. The lady general might've already chastised him for using a facade but it was something he couldn't help. It was part of his attitude; to avoid trouble whenever possible.
"Indeed, I'm a mere recruit by the name of Locke Cole. I pardon the intrusion I have caused you." Locke looked at the protective position general Equiste has made for him and guessed what the situation entails for him.
With a clear voice and a calm smile, he spoke out to try and soothe the rage-filled man. "I assure you not, I am not trying to steal her from you." With a quick pause, Locke remembered the traditions of foreign lands he had visited and continued his remark after giving the rest of the ladies a quick glance. "I do not plan on stealing any of them from you, for that matter."

Edward’s pair of blue circles meets Eclair's for a second after she mentioned his name. As expected, it rang authority. When they were still little – when Eclair was still little she called him with much more affection. But he understands why she sounded so different now. And it still hurts him that it was his entire fault. But he managed to cover his guilt like how he had always successfully done for the last fifteen years of his life, after the family decided that she will take over his spot as the head.
But he couldn’t help for a brow to twitch when he realized Eclair trying to cover up a guy against him. His little sister, standing up for someone else. His mood somehow calmed down when Ileana spoke.
But that didn’t stop his blood to boil. The next minute Locke spoke and Edward tried to pierce his gaze over Eclair's shadow to see the guy’s face. Indeed, he still wore that smile that ticked him when he submitted his application.
“I don’t need to be told who he is for I remember his name and face vividly.” He spoke ice. He couldn’t help it. After what Eclair's former marriage arrangement, he had sworn to never let a man he hasn’t approved of to step inside his territory and be as much close to his little sister more than a meter. And here is a mere trainee, sipping tea with Eclair in one table. This could have been a perfect quiet afternoon if it weren’t for some stranger.
He looked down on Locke as he tried to scan the real thing. “Even if he’s a trainee, that doesn’t mean he could step in without any notice.” Edward threw a glance at Ileana who happens to have mentioned she was the one who let him in.
He knew full well that he needs to control his mood – rather, his whole personality. This is a trainee that he’s hissing about. This person who might hold the future of the whole continent and he’s trying to shoe him away.
But who cares about one great continent anyway? For him, his sister who happened to have saved him from the heavy burden of their name is what he sees as the most important thing in the world.
Letting his passion burn his heart, he paced up towards the party and immediately took hold of Eclair's hand, pulling her behind him. Now that the barrier between him and Locke is gone, he took the chance to stare down the merchant who have failed to stand up as he introduced himself.
“If you have questions, ask me.” Edward started as he tried to calm his breathing just so he could speak his thoughts. “If you seek guidance within the military, I’m the perfect person for it. If you need any route recommendations to go around Altrus, I know them better than anyone else. And you have the very time to do so when you applied. So if you’ll excuse my rudeness,” Edward’s tone finally settled, “you are not allowed to enter this house without my permission.”

Oh Goddess, Another troublesome person has entered the fray. Without ever turning her head to who it was, she already know that it was Eclair's older brother, Edward. It is well know all over the Kingdom about his love for women and his over protectiveness to his young sisters. The news that he forcefully broke Eclair's betrothal agreement spread like wild fire.
Kisara almost chocked from the cake she was eating when she heard Locke's statement to Edward. Now he went and said it. She though while rolling her eyes. Ileana tried to calm Edward down but didn't work. No surprise there. Kisara sighed and shifted from her seat to face a seething Edward.
"Well hello Lord Edward" she said and gave her rare and less frosty smile to the older Equiste. "Don't blame Mr. Locke for not knowing anything of the protocols around Altrus. Ileana just spontaneously invited him to our little gathering here and it would be rude to throw him out. We must show our hospitality as members of the Noble houses here in Altrus. Right?"

Edward switched to Kisara who happened to have worn a weird expression. It was weird because Kisara is the actual image of an ice queen and for her to wear a smile – close to one – is one weird thing.
As he was reminded that it was Ileana that welcomed the unwelcome guest, his eyes went to face the red-haired woman.
“I’m surprised that you have the time to drag someone into another person’s home while you, yourself, tried to flee from your responsibility as a general.” He said in his usual tone. If he’s being honest, Kisara and Ileana are both existence that he cannot ignore. Being daughters of noble houses and seeing them during parties made it as if they were all one big family, only divided by difference of names. So maybe, one could somehow tell that Edward can only talk normally to people such as them. It wasn’t because they are of a noble but because they are people who experienced the same pressure as him since they were kids.
“If I remember correctly,” Edward continued, giving a small smile towards Ileana’s direction. “You left two generals to handle guiding the trainees at Antar Port. But oh, please, do correct me if I’m wrong.”
Then Edward went back to his business with Locke. “And you. Isn’t it time for you to go? Don’t you have to prepare yourself? Training will soon start and you will no longer have time for idle chits and chats, young lad.”
Surprisingly, Edward’s voice lowered. It could have been because a grip in his hand is making him somehow uncomfortable.

All of a sudden, Ileana was once again reminded of the real purpose of this gathering.
She fidgeted and returned to her seat, refusing to look at Edward's face. "They handled it just fine without me." She answered petulantly. "In fact, why do I have to be one of the mentors? This isn't what I signed up for when I asked Eclair to train me 3 years ago." She glowered at her untouched cup of tea. She just want to be out there fighting demons! Not babysit recruits! "I should be out there fighting. The more days I stay here, the more days those...those vermin continue to live!" She spat out.
Then she turned to look at Locke and sent him a cold smile, "and Mr. Cole, I would appreciate it if you NEVER imply such scandalous things about us again. I will let you off this once because of your foreign backgrounds, but do not expect me to be so lenient next time."

There was a sudden chuckle that rang through the room. Unconsciously, Locke had let out a loud sincere laugh at the expansive mess that was occurring before him. It was just a refreshing scene for him to witness; he was reminded of the idle banters and arguments he had with his companion. Everything had just reminded him of the simple times he had with Klas. The dark haired general similarly disliked his merchant's smile and would not hide the fact. The red haired one, not only having the same hair color, reminded him of her mischievous nature. And general Equiste had the same cunning she would normally display when they were at odds at each other or when thinking about a problem. It was not an exaggeration to say that he enjoyed the openness that had unfolded in front of him.
Wiping his clouded eyes while starting to calm himself. It was far too foolish a scene. The fact that the people around him started unveiling secrets he had no business hearing about made him feel more at ease. It would be a lie to say he enjoyed a formal introduction more than a chaotic meeting like this.
But Locke was sensible enough to know he was stretching his welcome as well. Far too much a time had passed and he most likely got off on the wrong foot with some of the ladies.
I bet she would laugh at me like I'm a village fool. He thought subtly about his missing companion. He knew, looking at the generals who would be looking after him, that he was going to be fine. He could not say as much for his companion though, so a lingering fear still lingered in his heart. If he could turn back time, even at the cost of both arms and legs, he was sure he would do it in a heartbeat but right now all he could think off was the enjoyment he had just experienced.
I guess I'm a sly man, he said, mentally apologizing to his companion as he wished her safety.
After finishing off the last of his laughs, Locke stood up and calmly looked at the angry Edward. He gave a quick bow of respect, one he genuinely intended, as he said to him, "Aye, I seem to be overstaying my welcome."
He then turned to look at general Alexandria. His face had his natural grin, one that showed he enjoyed the mental spar he had with her. "General Alexandria," he said to her with his eyes directly at hers, "I apologize for how foul I made your mood. If I was asked to retract my actions, though, then I would like to politely decline. I thoroughly enjoyed our exchange."
And then he faced general Amadea, the one who closely resembled the one he was looking for. "General Amadea," he said to her with a mischievous grin. "It would seem like I would not be able to help you with your assassination plot today. But perhaps another time would arrive, and in that moment please try to find me."
Finally he turned to face the Equiste siblings. In his eyes, there was only gratitude left. "Lord and Lady Equiste, I might have been a problem today but I thank you for accepting me despite my situation. I promise I would dare not destroy any of your reputations as long as you aid me in my search."
Breathing in one last deep breath, Locke knew he had one final thing to do. The generals around him already showed him a piece of themselves, whether intentionally or not, and it would be disrespectful if he did not do the same. He was, after all, the one who wanted all of them to be on equal ground and surely his companion would give him a scornful glare.
Caring not whether the others' gazes were at him, he started, "My companion's name is Klas. She was branded a crimson witch and had been hunted down but I assure you she had no magic or witchcraft. Only a foul attitude and a higher intellect than most people. We met on a fateful moment and had grown fond of each other as time passed." Locke, for a moment, looked at his empty hand before continuing on. "I'm not sure about my feelings for her but I know for a fact that I would not forgive myself if I let her go. That's why I wish not to draw any of your ire. If possible..." Locke trailed off one last time. He thought about the one word merchants would rarely use to describe another person because they were more often ready to stab anyone in the back for mere profit. But here he was, looking forward to it.
"If possible, I'd like to be your friend."

Eclair wanted to bang her head into the nearest stonework to see if she can wake her eyes up and be thankful if everything turned out to be a dream. But she knew it would be close to impossible.
Not this again… She complained in her mind. It didn’t even cross her mind that her own brother was home and yet, she let Locke enter their house without any warning to the younger trainee.
Her bubbles of thoughts burst when Edward suddenly pulled her to his side, trying to be the protective brother that he had always been. With his gesture, she remembered how he did almost the same with her previous partner on an arranged marriage where his maddening self was uncontrollable that even their own father, had to step back to not touch Edward’s bad side. But this is not the time to worry about an old tale. And it’s not like she’s in another arranged marriage either so this level of Edward-worry is unnecessary.
Although it’s true that whenever if it is about the details of military information, Edward is the best book you could find within the continent. And Eclair can’t help but be proud of her older brother as he claimed every knowledge he has that he has worked so hard to gain. But this is also not the time to be mushy just because your own sickly brother is standing up for you.
Although Ileana’s attempt to calm Edward down failed tremendously, Kisara used some effective words on him to even make him start breathing normally. But just as Edward reminded her about the original goal of the said ‘tea party’, this time, it was her anger that was triggered. She’s also thankful that Edward managed to scold Ileana in her stead but the bratty girl would still be able to dodge it willfully.
As expected. A simple scolding will not reach that girl’s ears. She told herself, and started gripping on Edward’s hand, strong enough, to make him notice that his actions and attitude is going over the line.
“Edward, stop this insolence this instant.” Eclair whispered angrily at her brother.
As she realizes that Edward’s tone started to change, she smiled to the other three people after shoving her brother a little so she could all see their faces. But as Locke started laughing, surprise mixed up with her feelings of fear that her brother might get into rage mode once again.
She patiently waited until Locke acknowledge them while hoping that Edward won’t do or say anything stupid and just leave the trainee alone.
“It’ll be an interesting feat to be friends with you, Locke.” Eclair said with a stiffening smile, trying to hide how she would love to drag Edward out of the garden before he could fire another missile of fury to anyone. “But for now, I’d like to talk with my dear brother.” She stressed the word ‘dear’ so Edward can, at least, get her silent message.
She also sent a quick glare to Ileana, remembering what she did during the welcoming of the trainees back at Antar Port. “Celebrate for now, Ileana.” And she gave the red-haired girl a grin before dragging Edward by the hand out of the garden.

Chills ran through his veins when he heard Eclair's threat from behind him. He can’t really imagine what the head of combat could do to him if he doesn’t follow her word. But most of those chills were just his own appreciation of what Eclair has become. Someone strong and someone all members of the force would follow after.
But still, he can’t help his tongue to tick as Locke stole the spot again, greeting every member present. When he was about to say something in retort, Eclair’s voice won over his thoughts, saying she would be glad to be friends with the trainee.
To be friends with a guy. It was how Edward simplified the whole situation and is purely wrong.
He wanted to say a piece of his mind to Locke. He wanted to warn him that if ever he touches a finger on Eclair, he’d say good bye to being a part of the military. He wanted to let him know that whoever gets close to his sisters would face the consequences. And one of those consequences is his own being.
But Eclair had already gone into a move of dragging him out. “Wait, Eclair. I’m not finished yet!” He struggled but it was futile.
‘Since when was it that she became more powerful than me?’ He tried to question himself.
Edward & Eclair Exits.

Ileana grinned when she heard Locke's words. 'Weird insinuations aside, he seems to be a decent person.' She thought.
Her grin widened when Eclair made to leave dragging her overbearing brother with her. She knew she was out of trouble for now. She couldn't help but stick her tongue out at Eclair and Edward's retreating backs.
Then she turned back to the man she had unwittingly dragged into the lion's den. "Of course I'd be happy to be your friend Mr. Cole!" She exclaimed cheerfully. "Oh, Kisa would be too, just so you know. I'm telling you because she's not going to admit it." She added as an after thought, sending a sly smile towards the silent girl. "Well, I'm leaving now that this paltry charade of a tea party is over." She announced, making her way towards the exit.

Seeing how the meeting was over and he had no other business, Locke turned his heel to try and follow the general Amadea. Although his memory was good, the mansion's unfamiliarity would trump over his abilities to retrace his steps most likely.
Turning back, he gave a bow to the remaining general Alexandria as he started to move forward.
Things were different now, he reminded himself. He needed to learn how to fight. A merchant's weapon might be words, but words would not stop a demon with an intent to kill. While the entire conversation might've turned into utter chaos, Locke couldn't deny that he gained valuable information and some noteworthy connections. And he was thankful for the short bliss of enjoyment he had that brushed away his anxiety and fear even if it only lasted a few moments.
Gripping his hand tightly, thinking about his companion to resolve his will, he silently moved out the mansion.
Locke is out.

Kisara glared at Ileana as she was about to make her escape. Oh well, Eclair will have her day with her. She sighed inwardly.
As for Locke asking for a connection of friendship? Well he has a lot of work to do if he wants to gain her trust. She gave him a small nod in reply to his bow and gazed at his back as he left her alone.
"I hope that he wouldn't be paired with Lucifer." She muttered to herself. I need to get back home. Balthazar left me some paper work to see and sign.
With that thought in mind, Kisara stood up from her seat and walk towards the exit of the garden. She'll just send a note to Eclair and remind her that Ileana escaped. Reviewing in today's events, Kisara is surprisingly looking forward for training.
