Settings:
Location: Outside of the center, a patch of nature, somewhere near Antar Port.
Time: One day after the events of SQ004, evening.

In the lightly clouded sky above, the sun was slowly beginning its descent. Shadows were gradually becoming taller, and the sky was subtly gaining hints of red. It was late, near the end of yet another busy day in Antar. A busy day of hard work, but certainly one of progress as well.
Like many others so far. Auris reflected, subtly smiling to himself. When he had made the decision to sign up and become a recruit, he had held high expectations of the organisation and all the things he'd learn here. So far, he hadn't been disappointed in the slightest.

He took another few paces forward, entering the shadow of a tree and stopping there to take a look at his surroundings. As rewarding as it was, learning was a process that required constant effort, and this evening he had decided to take a little break from all the work. He had found a spot outside of the center, just a small patch of nature near the waterfront, where he could sit down and have some rest by himself. Out of habit, he had almost taken some notes and even the orb with him, but had then purposely left them behind back in his dormitory room. He'd get back to that tomorrow.

For now, it's just this place and me. Auris thought. He took a deep breath and sat down, leaning back against the tree behind him, looking at the grass, the other plants, the leaves above.. Nature. Just nature. It had been way too long since he had last taken the time to just sit down and watch. As a kid, he remembered, it was almost part of his daily routine. He'd go out and explore, with or without friends by his side, finding all sorts of worthwhile places in and around Vetanom. He had seen many different streets, squares, landmarks.. a few interesting ruins even, and lots of fields, forests, and other natural areas in the outskirts or just outside of the city altogether. Now this was a relatively small patch of nature, but enough to give him that sense of the past. The soft breeze, the sound of rustling leaves, the bordering water that seemed to stretch out endlessly..

.. And then suddenly, it shattered.
That image -- that feeling of connection to the past, which had just for a moment felt warm and safe.. It stung. It hurt. And all of a sudden, he didn't want to think about it anymore.
Attempting to push it out of his mind, Auris stood back up, and even considered heading back. An idea that he quickly shot down, however.
No, hang on.. How long have I been here? He questioned. Five minutes? ..Barely, I think..
He came here to rest, and not just to drop by and leave again immediately.

The trainee sighed, and decided to stay. After all, the place itself was nice and calming.. Why wouldn't he?

The sky was tinted with red, as day turns to night. The time of day when crepuscular and nocturnal creatures stirs from their rest to start their day. And one if such creatures had found it's target.

Rianne was a mess, leaves and twigs were stuck on her already messy hair, as she quickly shove branches and leaves away from her. She was running away from her pursuer and towards the clearing that opens up to the hidden inlet not far from the port.

When she reached the clearing and Rianne abruptly stopped just a few feet from the edge of the levee. It was a short but safe drop on the brackish waters of the inlet. Feeling cornered and in no mood to swim, she threw her satchel to the side. Rianne slightly raised her hands in surrender, while turning to face here pursuer.

A few seconds later, an average size red fox bursts out of the treeline and pounced on her. Sending both Rianne and it toppling down the edge, and unto the brackish water below. A loud yelp of surprise followed by a huge splash broke the stillness of the woods.

Trying to focus on just his surroundings again, Auris leaned back against the tree and took another deep breath. It had surprised him how easily these peaceful memories had turned around.. How they had turned around again.
In order to keep his mind from wandering there another time, he did his best to actively take in the settings -- watching the distant sky, counting the clouds, actively observing their slow movement.. And gradually, it began to set a calm over him again.
This was what he was here for. Not for the past, but for the present. For now. Amidst the soft grass, the sight of an early sunset, the sound of the trees..

The sound of the trees.
The trainee's eyes shifted to his left, from where he had just heard some distant noises he couldn't quite place. Leaves brushing against each other, the far snapping of a twig. Was something moving through the woods?
His sight fixed in this direction, he curiously scanned for anything that might be spotted among the trees. Nothing seemed to meet his vision, however.
.. Must've been a deer of some kind. He then reasoned, shrugging it off -- although it made him realise that he didn't even know what kinds of animals had their homes here. Not that it bothered him; on the contrary, it would give him a fun thing to try and find out another day, should he ever have the time for it.

But then, his deer theory was quickly debunked when all of a sudden he heard a yelp, accompanied by a loud splash quickly after. Immediately alerted, Auris directed his full attention to the water inlet, from where he was certain the sounds had come.
The trainee narrowed his eyes, unable to come to a conclusion. But then it struck him.
Wait!.. That sounded like.. No, he wasn't mistaken; he knew that voice.

Having already forgotten about the rest he was supposed to get, Auris quickly made his way towards the ledge, meanwhile keeping an eye on his surroundings to make sure he wouldn't miss anything. Nothing else seemed to happen, so when he reached the levee, he carefully approached it and looked down into the water; finding himself facing nothing but a fox treading water, next to a surprisingly messy Rianne.

For a very brief moment, he just stood there blinking, the fact he was trying to puzzle things together clearly showing on his face.
Then, he spoke up.
"Rianne! What is.. Why are you--?" The recruit failed to formulate one question, as he was wondering too many things at a time. He wasn't certain how to react to the whole situation, either. Something told him to crouch down and extend a hand to try and help them out, but the water below made him feel hesistant about that idea.
"I heard all those noises coming from here.. Are you alright?"
Somehow, something about the clumsy situation actually looked quite amusing, too -- but he did what he could to make sure it wouldn't show.

Rianne was observing the fox trying to get it's own bearings to remain afloat, after the surprise fall on the water. "I'm glad you're getting good at swimming now Blaze" she declared proudly, addressing the young fox. Despite her messy looks and current predicament, Rianne was happily grinning as she remained floating on the water. Playing in the water with a furry friend, somehow brought about a sense of nostalgia for the blunette.

Confident in the secludedness of the area and filled with nostalgia, Rianne allowed herself to lower her guard. And allowed her childishness to come out and play. She began bombarding the fox with light splashes of water, while chiding "This is what you get for-". Noticing her friend had suddenly stopped trying to avoid her splash attacks. Wondering what the fox was keenly looking at among the treeline, she too turned her gaze, following Blaze's line of sight. Just in time to see the green-haired trainee with a very puzzled look saying:
Auris

"Rianne! What is.. Why are you--?"
"Oh, Mr. Auris!" Rianne greeted Auris' query with a puzzled looked of her own. Failing to realize that, maybe her current look and predicament was the reason for the young man's confusion. While turning her head to point out the fox near her. Or so she thought. Rianne causally said "Oh nothing, I'm just playing with my furry friend here-"

A few moments earlier...
Seeing as his foster human was preoccupied communicating with it's follow human. Blaze, the fox started swimming towards the shore. Making a break for the treeline to hide from the other human.

"What the-?! Blaze!" Rianne exasperatedly cried. Seeing how Blaze decided to leave her in the water. And was already nearing shore. Rianne quickly turned her head up to Auris and said "Just a moment please Mr. Auris." And just a split second after her words were uttered, she quickly dove in the water and swam to shore following Blaze. But this time she was heading much closer to where Auris was.

The confused look on the recruit's face slowly subsided as his fellow trainee explained the situation.
Playing with my furry friend.. Playing with animals. That explained the messy look, Auris realised. Looking at the twigs and leaves stuck in Rianne's hair once more, the young man had to hold back a chuckle. Not that he himself hadn't ever looked like this; in fact, he was pretty certain he'd had it worse. But even then, he still couldn't deny that it all looked somewhat amusing.
Together with the sounds that had come from the forest earlier, it now made sense to him, though.
Seems they had decided to go for a run. He pointed out, smiling thinly.
Or at least the animal did.

However, it was then that something seemed to occur to Rianne.
Suddenly hearing her call out a name -- one he assumed to be the animal's -- Auris realised something had happened. Or rather, something had disappeared, for he too quickly noticed that the fox had quietly left its previous position.
".. Oh, huh?" He exclaimed, quickly scanning the nearby area while adding: "Why, seems the furry friend suddenly decided upon another plan.."

"Just a moment please Mr. Auris."
His fellow recruit seemed to have already located the animal, as she dove back and began swimming towards her target. Auris' eyes followed the direction she was swimming in, tracing the line further until they too met the small red animal nearing the treeline. It was heading for the shore, clearly.. But would it stop there?
The lime-haired trainee was no expert on foxes, but he knew well enough that the animals generally loved escaping. And although he wasn't certain how well the fox knew Rianne, this one would probably be no different. Should it reach the treeline, who knew how long they'd have to look for it again?

He took a few more steps back from the shore, and slowly but surely began making his way towards the same treeline the animal was headed for. He was fairly certain Rianne would be able to catch up to the fox -- but it wasn't that far, and if he could reach the trees first, then perhaps he'd be able to serve as a backup should the fox make a run for it.
Else his fellow recruit might have to go chasing again, he concluded, again being reminded of how messy she had looked. Any more twigs and she might not be able to ever get them off again..

The fox scurried as fast as it could towards the treeline, ignoring the human female's call, too wary of the new human being in the area. It has never seen that particular human before and as a wild animal, it was only natural for it to shy away from creatures it does not recognize.

The small human female was an exception though. The fox had known her for a few weeks now. It was wary of her at first, but after consistent visits and a few treats, the fox had come to realize that the human girl meant it no harm.

As it entered the treeline, the fox stopped and shook its body, flinging water drops everywhere and puffing its fur. Once it was done drying as much as it can, it looked back into the water to see its human friend swimming toward the shore.

The fox did a happy jump. It didn't want to stop playing yet, but a movement on the side of its vision caused it to hunch and slowly crawl back.

The new human was approaching!

The fox may be young but as a creature of the wild, it had come to be distrustful of humans. Humans kill or take away its kin and other forest creatures. They carry and own fearful things, things that trap...things that cut much greater than a timber wolf's fangs.

With a startled yelp, the young fox fled back deeper into the forest.

Auris kept close track of the fox as the animal made its way into the treeline. Watching it shake the water out of its coat, the trainee began wondering if perhaps the fox was used to humans in its surroundings. After all, most foxes wouldn't so much as show themselves with any sign of people around, while this one had seemingly voluntarily been near Rianne just now. Maybe this one wasn't so shy?
"Hey-- Its name is Blaze, isn't it?" He absently asked Rianne, without looking back to see where she was. Instead, he kept his eyes fixed on the animal in front of him. "Is it familiar with people?"

Naturally, the wisest thing to do would have been to wait for an answer, but curiosity got the best of him. Without waiting for any reaction first, Auris decided to try and see if he could get any closer.

The trainee carefully hunched down to get near the same level as the fox, and softly clicked at the animal. When it didn't show any direct reaction yet, however, he added a gentle "hey there, friend", and slowly attempted to approach its current location.
He was certain he could be on good terms with it. After all, as long as he kept low, he wouldn't appear as any sort of threat -- right?
As soon as the fox did notice him, however, its reaction was the least the trainee had hoped for.
With a sudden yelp, it turned and ran immediately. Disappearing among the trees within seconds, it left Auris with nothing more than the slow realisation he had just achieved the exact opposite of what he had intended.

"--Err.." He slowly uttered, blinking.
Finally glancing back to see where Rianne was, he realised it was his fault she would now have to search for Blaze after all. He briefly considered chasing the fox, but going after it would undoubtedly only serve to further scare it.
Instead, the recruit merely looked in the direction the fox had fled to, hoping it wouldn't go too far.
"Oh, heh.. Whoops." He mumbled to himself, scratching the back of his head. "That didn't exactly go as planned."

Rianne caught glimpses of what was going on land as she swam towards the surface. She wanted te to warn Auris of Blaze’s skittishness when it came to strangers. But she was worried of Blaze being startled and become hostile or water going down her throat. Her clothes were dripping wet as she trudge across the shore. At least now she looked a little less horrid as before. The leaves adorning her hair had lessened, with two or three small twigs and leaves still holding on to her blue locks. But by the time she got to where Auris was, Blaze was already gone.
Auris

"Oh, heh.. Whoops." He mumbled to himself, scratching the back of his head. "That didn't exactly go as planned."
“Ah, you startled Blaze,” Rianne spoke out, neither sounding irritated nor sighing. Considering how he met the timid little pup. She had expected Blaze to hide from strangers. “It’s okay though. I doubt he'd gone far..." Even though Rianne doubted how far Blaze would actually be if he chose to stalk them. "But he'll probably be around somewhere...”

“May I ask Mr. Auris, what brought you here so far out into the woods?” the blue haired trainee queried. She wasn’t sure that Auris was an outdoorsy type of person. But she surmised from her previous encounters with the green-head, that he seems to have problems when it comes to water. So she was curious as to why he was here.
